We completed this fun achievement tonight.

Heroic: The Twilight Destroyer, 25 Player

    July 4th, 2010 by Altaria

25 man Halion HC down, server first, EU 38th, and World 54th! This is simply a great fun fight, and a really nice way to round off WotLK. We used 3 tanks, 7 healers and 15 dps. We found that getting the dps balance right was best achieved by putting 5 dps inside (melee, with full melee buffs), and the remaining dps (melee and ranged) outside; inside we used a DK tank and 3 healers (druid, pala, dpriest). With 3 healers outside, we suffered from tank deaths in phase 3, and so removed 1 dps for an extra healer. Outside we used a feral tank, prot war, ranged/melee dps mix and the afforementioned 4 healers (pala, shaman, dpriest, hpriest). It was a very smooth kill, which you can see in two movies below. The movies are slightely different: The Sinx PoV shows the kill during phase 3 from the outside, and the Eija PoV shows the kill during phase 3 from the inside.

WotLK is now complete for Eternal Gathering. Bring on Cataclysm!

The Twilight Destroyer Movies, 25 Player

  • Sinx, Moonkin PoV: The Twilight Destroyer, 25 Player
  • Eija, Arms War PoV: The Twilight Destroyer, 25 Player

  • Heroic: The Twilight Destroyer, 10 Player

    July 2nd, 2010 by Altaria

We killed the 10 man version of this fun encounter late last night, EU 60th. It's a nice fight, with a different emphasis over the usual: Here specific class balance, healer types and optimal dps buffs matter less over personal awareness, communication and control (with a passing reference to classic Gothic in Nax). Blizzard have certainly done a good job developing the concept of this fight, and tuning it too. We used 2 tanks (feral, war), 3 healers (pala, druid, dpriest ) and 5 dps (mage, rogue, hunter, sp and offspec ele shaman). We're progressing on phase 3 of the 25 man version also, and should have a kill soon.

  • Lich King down - 12/12 ICC HC

    June 15th, 2010 by Altaria

Lich King 25 on heroic down, realm first!

The Lich King on heroic is an awesome fight. Blizzard have done a great job developing and tuning this top rank encounter. Thanks to all EG raiders who put such effort into seeing this boss down, and thanks to those who had to rotate for us to achieve the right raid balance. We certainly feel we should and could have killed the LK a lot sooner, because in the end it was a smooth kill.

Getting to the point of leaving the final frostmourne room and seeing the boss on just under 12% was quite a journey: Tank burnout and instability (read ninja quits), a raft of trials who did not make the cut, and then the ones who did burned out (go figure), sudden disc priest burnout, sudden disappearance of our meta lock (we killed LK with no meta lock or ele shaman), sudden and unpredictable lag and dc's, using offspec tanks, healers, and dps, us pursuing a dodgy defile strat for too long, and player frustration with having to re-learn the fight with new trials, just might have affected progress.

But, where there is a will there is a way, and in EG we have a core of experienced raiders who know what it takes to take down tough raid bosses. The whole experience reminded many in EG of killing M'uru (which we killed after the push back nerf, but before the hitpoint nerf of July 16th 2008, which preceded the 3.0 meganerf). The question such bosses ask of players is not only if they have the skill, but also the sheer determination to see a kill, and we rose to the challenge.

Overall, I feel ICC has not lived up to the high standard set by Ulduar, which was one of the best raid instances ever, but was certainly a step up over ToGC. As a whole hardmodes in U25 were more varied, developed and challenging than in ICC. In ICC, only LK stands out as a brilliant fight, the other hardmodes range from certainly fun to fastfood. That said, ICC is a good raid instance. I was pleased to read Bliz are going to ditch the flawed limited tries system, introduced in ToGC. With that, we're looking forward to The Ruby Sanctum and Cataclysm with much anticipation.

    Lich King Heroic Kill Movies

Lich King Heroic 10 man down & GotIR 25 man

    May 3rd, 2010 by Altaria

We've not pushed for 10 mans, but killed Lich King on Heroic setting the other night. It's a fun fight for sure. On the same night we completed the ICC 25 man Meta, by finishing off Portal Jockey and the Sindragosa achievement, both on heroic setting - we want loot for LK 25 man!

    Shadowmourne complete!

    April 14th, 2010 by Altaria

Finally we had our 50th shard drop and our Fury Warrior, Fing, could obtain the legendary weapon. Congratulations Fing! Seems to me we've had some bad luck with the shard drop rate; farming heroic bosses is meant to see a higher shard drop rate. But it's luck based of course. We've started our second Shadowmourne also, this time for our Arms Warrior, Eija.

Eternal Gathering is five years old!

    April 6th, 2010 by Altaria

Happy Birthday EG! Five years old and still going strong. Five years is quite a time for a raiding guild to exist, and is testament to the determination and committment of our raid and council members. In my time here, we've had ups and downs but I've always remained firm in and been impressed by our capacity to succeed. Speaking personally, Ive had the best time of my time playing WoW raiding in EG, and I've been playing this great game since the US beta, back in 2004. Thanks to all past and present EG members for keeping this great guild going.

Professor Putricide down - 11/12 ICC HC

    March 19th, 2010 by Altaria

We were slow to kill this boss. It should have died sooner, but dead is dead. We used 4 tanks, 6 healers and 15 dps. Nice to be able to start work on the Lich King himself. On a side note we are also close to the 25 man meta, and some nice mounts.

    We have two kill movies!

Glory of the Icecrown Raider (10) done

    March 14th, 2010 by Altaria

First round of cool mounts for us, many more to come!

EG Boss Kill Movies: Lich King, BQL HC & Festergut HC

    March 6th, 2010 by Altaria

I thought it would be nice to promote some of our latest boss kill movies, which our arms warrior, Eija, and moonkin, Sinx, have made. First is our server first Lich King kill movie (Sinx PoV); next is BQL HC and Festergut HC (both Eija PoV).

Sindragosa down - 10/12 ICC HC

    March 4th, 2010 by Altaria

Cool fight, 1-shot this evening. We had the fight worked out last week; the buff on for the kill.

Valithria Dreamwalker down - 9/12 ICC HC

    February 26th, 2010 by Altaria

    Another easy fight.

Blood Prince Council down - 8/12 ICC HC

    February 25th, 2010 by Altaria

    Easy fight.

Lady Deathwhisper down - 7/12 ICC HC

    February 24th, 2010 by Altaria

Another nicely tuned fight, really not hard when the raid spreads properly!

Blood Queen Lana'thel down - 6/12 ICC HC

    February 23rd, 2010 by Altaria

Nice fight, tightely tuned which needs almost perfect execution to complete. We used two tanks, six healers and seventeen dps.

Festergut down - 5/12 ICC HC

    February 22nd, 2010 by Altaria

Fat bastard hits the deck. Two tanks, six healers and seventeen dps; the kill included some serious dps from team rogue! Fun encounter.

Gunship, Deathbringer Saurfang & Rotface down - 4/12 ICC HC

    February 21st, 2010 by Altaria

Surfang was especially entertaining. For Surfang we used two tanks, seven healers and sixteen dps.

Lord Marrowgar down - 1/12 ICC HC

    February 17th, 2010 by Altaria

Lord Marrowgar down on HC 25 man mode, easy fight.

Lich King Dead! ICC - 12/12

    February 12th, 2010 by Altaria

EG defeated the Lich King, and as a result Dalaran has a nice statue. The fight itself is pretty good. Three phases, with two mini-phases; some good mechanics which focus on personal awareness and good raid positioning makes this one of the best in ICC. We used two tanks, six healers and seventeen dps. The RP at the end is reasonable too. Multiple 10 man raids also killed LK in his more gimped form. It was certainly disappointing not to kill LK last reset. But what's done is done, and now hardmodes are here: We can't wait!

    Dalaran Statue

    Icecrown Citadel - 11/12

    February 9th, 2010 by Altaria

The fourth and final wing of ICC is opened this reset. Called Frostwing Halls, the wing contained two new bosses, both of which we killed. Neither Valithria Dreamwalker, or Sindragosa posed us issues. Therefore the path is open to the Lich King.

    Icecrown Citadel - 9/12

    January 26th, 2010 by Altaria

The third wing of ICC, Crimson Hall, opened this reset and we killed the latest two bosses, Blood Prince Council and Blood-Queen Lana'thel.

Recruiting is open, please check the forum link above.

    Icecrown Citadel - 7/12

    January 8th, 2010 by Altaria

The lastest wing of ICC opened last Wednesday. Rotface and Festergut hit the deck fast. After killing them, we progressed to Professor Putricide, who had a try limit of 10. After killing the boss on 10 man setting, we downed the 25 man version of the boss, with a couple tries in hand. Fun boss for sure, really not hard at all when players get up to speed with the movement needed to avoid the damange. We used 3 tanks, 6 healers and 16 dps, and allowed the debuff in phase 3 to stack twice before a tank taunted. Good kill, no deaths.

Recruiting update: We have several classes we have spots open for, and are especially interested in some top dps for hardmodes, which are not far off.

    Icecrown Citadel - 4/12

    December 9th, 2009 by Altaria

ICC is finally open! It's great to have a new instance to raid. On our first ICC 25 man raid we 1 shotted every new boss. Down went Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper, Icecrown Gunship Battle and Deathbringer Saurfang. This was of course on normal mode setting, as this is all that is currently available. Nothing much to say about each of the encounters, other than they are similar in difficulty to normal mode ToC. However, each boss holds the potential to be a decent heroic mode challenge, which we are greatly looking forward too! Roll on the next wing.

Recruiting is open. Please check the above for a direct link to our recruitment status post.

    Achievement Points Addiction!

    November 26th, 2009 by Altaria

Outside our main focus, PvE raiding, many EG guildmembers are keen to develop their achievement points. From the toughest hardmode achievements, down to the last /kissafrogwtfamIdoing achievement, players seek to boost their totals. We have some of the World’s leading achievement point addicts in guild. At time of writing the top three in EG are:

    • Ziggs, Retribution Paladin, World Rank 30th, 10630 points
    • Quacky, Shadow Priest, World Rank 56th, 10545 points
    • Saito, Warlock, World Rank 78th, 10490 points
We have an active and dedicated achievement raiding group, lead by Quacky, which seeks to defeat all achievements going and has been great in helping many players to develop their totals. Of course not all EG members are quite as focused on completing all achievements going. The guild has a range of preferences, all of which we accommodate. By the way, in cause you are wondering, my personal total is almost 6k and not to be sniffed at ;p

So here’s to our achievement point addicts, good job guys and keep EG up there on the score boards.

A Tribute to Insanity (25 player)

    November 11th, 2009 by Altaria

Tonight we finally completed a Tribute to Insanity in ToC25. We have been stupidly close to this achievement for weeks now. Last week we killed Anub with 49 tries left, the week before with 48, etc. We just needed our dc'ing rogue not to dc and the server not to lag (ie, the stars to align, and the second coming to happen) to kill this freaking boss with 50 tries. Well, we did it and with what I can only describe as the most perfect kill I have ever had the pleasure to witness. Two tanks, seven healers, rest dps, with some seriously heavy aoe. Thank you to everyone involved in making this kill happen, both in and out of the raid. Further, I hope Blizzard do not implement achievements of this sort again. Realm Firsts should be linked to who kills a boss first, period. By all means make the version of that fight hard as nails, we want that! But bolting on 'Immortal-like' conditions to achievements brings into play too strongly factors such server performance and individual internet stability, which in this day and age is simply not good enough for these kind of achievements to go to form a meaningful ranking system.

Bring on Icecrown! Recruiting is open, we are especially interested in a quality tank.

    Server 1st Title, Grand Crusader!

Earth, Wind & Fire (25 player)

    November 1st, 2009 by Altaria

After queuing up and winning WG hands down (owned horde lol), we went into VoA to attempt Earth, Wind & Fire. This one needs a raid to defeat Archavon the Stone Watcher, Emalon the Storm Watcher, and Koralon the Flame Watcher within 60 seconds of each other. We ran with three tanks, six healers and rest dps. After getting to grips with the pull, we successfully achieved the achievement. We also completed the 10 man version of this test.

    Server 1st, EU 20th, World 29th!

    Icecrown Citadel - PTR Raiding

    October 30th, 2009 by Altaria

Icecrown Citadel raid boss testing is currently underway, therefore, as usual, when the PTR is up with a new raid boss we are there. Reminiscent of classic Naxxramas, the look and atmosphere in ICC is great; the hallmarks of a great raid instance are there. We are very eager to for the instance to go live. So far we have tested Rotface and Lord Marrowgar. In the form we tested the bosses, Rotface was the more original: Oozes, slime, some personal awareness tests, lots of jumping around with a stress on execution and tactics over brute force. Seemed a fun raid boss. Lord Morrowgar was certainly a more basic encounter, which I feel could do with some extra abilities, or sharper damage, especially on the Bone Spike. Nevertheless, Marrowgar was fun boss too, which holds the potential for some interesting achievements.

We have recruiting open, so please check our forums for an up to date list.

A Tribute to Mad Skill (25 player)

    October 13th, 2009 by Thaloc

Eternal Gathering earns the achievement 'A Tribute to Mad Skill (25 player)'. To obtain this achievement you need to In the Trial of the Grand Crusader, reach a Tribute Chest with at least 45 attempts remaining in 25-player mode.

    Anub'arak Hardmode down!

    October 5th, 2009 by Thaloc

After overcoming the Twin Val'kyr, we encountered the final boss of the Trial of the Grand Crusader; Anub’arak. Weeks were spent learning; for Anub gained 25% HP, a considerable buff to his Leeching Swarm ability, as well as the Nerubian Borrowers gaining Shadow Strike and the spawn rate doubled; and constant. After a 6% wipe last week, we entered the Trial of the Grand Crusader determined to claim the scalp of Anub’arak. After ironing out issues with Penetrating Cold, we successfully killed Anub’arak, ensuring that EG have now cleared the Trial of the Grand Crusader!

We proudly announce that this is a server first!

Heroic: He Feeds On Your Tears

    September 22nd, 2009 by Altaria

We completed Heroic: He Feeds On Your Tears this evening, which is surely one of the more exclusive Ulduar achievements. In order to be rewarded with this achievement, all you need to do is 1-shot Algalon without someone screwing up in a fresh instance. Sounds simple enough, but given the intensive graphics and slight lag issues causing deaths, it's not that easy. Added to that you can't have any l2ps, so no DK death gripping the boss, no priest penance-pulling the boss, no MT standing in Smashes, no 'I lagged' / 'I got feared' / 'my goldfish caught fire' on Black Holes, none of which have happened to us of course!

    Server 1st, EU 7th, World 15th!

Fjola Lightbane & Eydis Darkbane Hardmode Down!

    September 10th, 2009 by Thaloc

After hitting the ground running, we stumbled in to the Twin Val'kyr; on hardmode, the fight equates to dodgeball and individual play, with the aura more damaging, and the Shield being at 1.2mill HP, as well as 11k Concentrated Essences in the form of balls. One reset was spent modifying, learning, and adapting to strats. After approaching the instance today, the aim was simple - kill them. After a frustrating 1% wipe, patience held and eventually the Twin Val'kyr bit the dust!

We proudly announce that this is a server first!

    Faction Champions Hardmode Down!

    September 3rd, 2009 by Thaloc

Next up for us was Faction Champions. These gained a PvP trinket buff, as well as increased damage and immunities from Taunt and such mechanics. After attempting the encounter in a PvP mindset and whining about Rogues, we attempted a more PvE approach which worked.

We proudly announce that this is a server first!

Northrend Beasts / Lord Jaraxxus Hardmode Down!

    September 2nd, 2009 by Thaloc

With the slaying of Anub'arak on "Normal" Difficulty came the true challenge in which Blizzard had promised us. First up was Northrend Beasts; an encounter that has been tuned quite nicely. Northrend Beasts on Heroic mode uses the same basis and strategy as Normal Beasts; with a precisely tuned Enrage timer and far more punishing abilities. It didn't take us long to master.

We proudly announce that this is a server first!

Up next was Heroic Lord Jaraxxus. Again, as you'd expect his own abilities were upped significantly; as well as targettable Portals and Volcanos. After prolonged discussion, he went down quite easily.

We proudly announce that this is a server first!

    Thorim Hard mode down

    April 28th, 2009 by Rhodos

After clearing the instance Ulduar (25 man) in the first week on normal mode, Eternal Gathering attempted some of the hard mode encounters.

One of our first stops was the Iron Council. After a couple of intensive strategy sessions we obtained the first step to "Algalon the raid destroyer" encounter. In the process we earned the Heroic: I Choose You, Runemaster Molgeim achievement. Altaria, our guild master got the honours to loot the first one.

Within the quest line what features another Computer mainframe and Mr. Bronzebeard you are instructed to un-corrupt the four watchers of Ulduar and ask them nicely to hand over their sigils. We tasted all of the four watchers hard mode, and forsee a quite difficult job on beating them. The content on hard mode is experienced as challenging and a real step up from the Naxxramas content.

But we do not fear, and tried what we thought to be the easiest to achieve encounter. This was watcher Thorim. To trigger the hard mode encounter you and your raid group needs to go trough the tunnel in a specific amount of time. If you manage, "Sif" will not despawn and assist Thorim in the attempt to kill you. All in all, after hearing the story of Thorim in the mountains a couple of fifty times, our coordination came together and un-corrupted him in the end.

According to the ranking sites, we were the world's 26th guild to achieve this.

We are currently preparing a video of the encounter for you to enjoy. This will be updated with a link as soon as possible.
